Abstract

Background : Stress ulcer is a focal lesion in the gastric mucosa characterized by acute bleeding or upper gastrointestinal perforation. Bleeding that occurs in Stress ulcers can cause hemodynamic instability. As many as 50% of cases of patient death occur as a result of stress ulcer bleeding. Stress ulcer prophylaxis (SUP) is a drug used to prevent gastointestinal tract injuries due to stress ulcers. The inappropriate use of SUP drugs can cause Adverse Drugs Reaction (ADR). The ADR makes a separate consideration so that SUP drugs are only given to patients in accordance with the guidelines and avoid the overuse of SUP drugs Objectives : To analyze the suitability of the use of SUP drugs based on the ASHP criteria and the drug cost of the SUP overuse in surgical patients in the inpatient surgical room of Dr. Soetomo Hospital Methods : An observational descriptive study was conducted on April 24, 2019 - May 17, 2019 in the Inpatient Room of Aster, Bougainvillea, Dahlia, Edelweis, Flamboyant, Gladiolus and Herbra Surgery. Data were obtained from observations and assessments of the patient's Medical Health Record Results : 152 patients were obtained in the Inpatient Room of Aster, Bougainvillea, Dahlias, Edelweis, Flamboyant, Gladiolus and Herbra of Dr Soetomo General Hospital using 1.404 SUP, of which 48.02% did not meet the ASHP criteria and were referred to as overuse medication. The cost of excess SUP in the study period (April 24 to May 17, 2019) was 974,804.15 rupiah. The overuse cost of SUP has a percentage of 30.08% of the total drugs cost of prescribed stress ulcer drugs.
