Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examines the influence of government ownership on leverage and examines the influence of government ownership on leverage with moderation of control of corruption, with the sample of nonfinancial companies listed on the Indonesia, China, Singapura, and Malaysia Stock Exchange. This study uses multiple linear regression models. Data obtained from the corporate annual report published in 2013-2017 period. Dependent variable in this study is leverages proxied by leverage. The independent variable used is government ownership proxied by the divide number of government ownership with the number of outstanding shares. The moderation variable used is control of corruption. In addition, the control variables in this study are age and size. The results of this study indicate that government ownership has a significant positive effect on leverages in Indonesia, China, and Singapore. Government ownership has a significant negative effect on leverages in Malaysia, and full sample. Control of corruption does not moderate government ownership of leverages.
