Abstract

This research aims to examine the effect of feed contaminated by aflatoksin to hematological blood profile of laying hens on growing phase which includes the number of erythrocytes, the level of hemoglobin, packed cell volume (PCV), and the number of leucocytes. Thirty six laying hens of Day Old Chicks (DOC) used in this study were divided into two groups (P0 and P1). P0 (controlled group) was given commercial feed CP 524 100% while P1 (treated group) was given 80% of basal feed CP-524 and added 20% of aflatoxin-contaminated feed. Laying Hens were adapted for 20 days, then the treatment of aflatoxin was carried out for 40 days with the sampling periode every 20 days (day 20, 40, and 60). The result of this study indicated the alteration of blood profile is not significant (p>0.05). Overall, the number of erythrocytes, level of hemoglobin, and packed cell volume (PCV) increased due to the absence of erithropoesis disorder, while the increase of leucocytes caused by the infection but still within normal limits. The increase of hematological profile was affected by the factor such as age. In conclusion, 20% of aflatoxin-contaminated poultry feed did not affect the hematological profile of the laying hens on growing phase.
