Abstract

Hypertension, is another name of high blood pressure, is a global phenomenon which requires complex therapy for its management. Therefore, a guideline in form of algoritm of therapy is vital for management of hypertension. The prescribing pattern will influence to the accuracy of the drugs to be given. The study aimed to identify the compliance of prescribing pattern in hypertensive patients based on therapy algorithm at primary healthcare centres in the west area of Surabaya (case study in patient under national health insurance program). A descriptive study using accidental sampling was conducted. The compliance of prescribing pattern was measured using a checklist. About 95 prescription for hypertensive patients were included in this study. The result showed that over 81 (85,3%) of prescriptions complied with therapy algorithm issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Health for primary healthcare centre. The compliance was relatively high, however the blood pressure was not always in controlled condition. Further research should address on factors influence blood pressure control.
