Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the difference result of prostate volume measurement using digital rectal examination (DRE) and transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) by the same operator, and the difference of porstate volume measurement by transabdominal ultrasound (TAUS) by a different examiner. Materials and methods: A total of 64 patients with BPH were entrolled between December 2005 and July 2006. Patients were randomly allocated into 2 groups. In group I, DRE and TRUS was performed by the same examiner and TAUS by a different examiner, while in group II, prostate volume was measured using DRE and TRUS b the same examiner. Wilcoxon test was used to sompare difference between DRE and TRUS in both groups, while the t-test for independet samples was used as a different test of TAUS in group II. Results: The patient ages were between 51-81 years old. BPH with urine retention was the most frequent cases in group I (62,50%) while the most cases in group II were BPH moderate LUTS (74,40%). The difference of prostate volume measurement using DRE and transrectal USG by the same operator has a significant value 0,819 in group I and 0,074 in group II, while the difference of prostate volume measurement using transabdominal USG by different operator has a significant value 0,908. Conclusion: There is no significant difference of prostate volume measurement using DRE and USG transrectal by the same operator. There is no significant difference of prostate volume measurement using transabdominal USG by different operator.
