Abstract

Pluchea indica L. is empirically used as antimalarial drug in Indonesia. Previous study showed that dichloromethane extracts of this plant was active as antimalarial against Plasmodium falcifarum (IC50 The plant extracts was suspended with 0,5% CMCNa. Than the infected mice were treated during 4 consecutive days with daily doses of the extracts by oral route. On day 5 of the test, thin blood smears were prepared and blood films were fixed with methanol. The blood films were stained with Giemsa, and then microscopically examined (1000 x magnification). The percentage suppression of parasitaemia was calculated for each dose level by comparing the parasitaemia in infected controls with those of treated mice. =0.88μg/mL). This research aims to investigate in vivo antimalarial activity of dichloromethane extracts on Plasmodium berghei infected mice using Peter’s test (The 4-Day suppresive test of blood schizontocida action). The result showed that dichloromethane fraction of P. indica L. has good antimalarial activity (ED50=29,78 mg/kg body weight). This finding supports the traditional use of the plant for the treatment of malaria
