Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate hemoglobin level in CKD-HD patients who received epoetin alfa in the Hemodialysis Unit Dr.Soetomo Hospital Surabaya. This study is a COHORT study.The results of 13 samples of the CKDHD patients receiving epoetin alfa suggest that most patients didn’t achieve the recommend Hb target. The patient’s Hb who reached the target level in 1st, 2nd,3rd and 4th periods were 7.69%, 15.38%, 7.69% and 7.69% respectively. Most patients (69.23%) showed only low fluctuation, but still below the target therapy (<11 g / dL). The achievement of Hb levels are influence by inflammatory. Drug Related Problems (DRPs) was found in 92,31% patients who received low doses of epoetin alfa. EPO alfa dose should be adjusted according to the patient's weight to reached the desired target Hb levels. Further research is needed to evaluate factors that affecting EPO alpha response using a larger number of samples with a more complete supportive laboratory data of causal factors hyporesponsiv EPO.
