Abstract

Microparticles of ketoprofen could be developed to decrease gastric irritation and extend absorption. The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of chitosan on physical characteristic, drug content and drug release of chitosan microparticles of ketoprofen. Microparticles were prepared by orifice ionic gelation method using 21G syringe with ketoprofen-chitosan ratio of 100 mg : 300 mg (F1), 100 mg : 400 mg (F2), 100 mg : 500 mg (F3). The result showed that as the chitosan concentration increased, the mean particle size of microparticles increased, with smoother surface and spherical shape, the encapsulation efficiency of microparticles decreased. In simulated intestinal fluid (pH 6,8), as the chitosan concentration increased the release of ketoprofen-chitosan microparticles decreased.
