Abstract

Hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) was one of the drug therapies for the treatment of hypertension. The aim of this research was to describe the profile of drug information given by community pharmacies staff in Surabaya about hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) prescription. A simulated patient method was used to assess the community pharmacies staff performance on giving drug information on the HCT prescription services in the community pharmacies setting in Surabaya. About 90 community pharmacies were selected randomly. A designed scenario, protocol, check list, and prescription contained hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) used to obtain the data regarding of hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) used. Validation and reliability test were done before obtaining data. The actor also signed a confidentiality agreement. The result showed that hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) prescription could be filled in 66 community pharmacies (73.3%). Only 33 community pharmacies gave information about frequency of drug administration. Information about how to used the drugs and the number of drug taken in once administration given by 21 community pharmacies (31.8%) and 19 community pharmacies (28.8%) respectively. There were 66 community pharmacies gave no information about the drug’s name, its indication and its side effects, etc. As a conclusion, some important information regarding of HCT Prescription services in the community pharmacies setting in Surabaya were not given by community pharmacies staff in Surabaya.
