Abstract

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a manifestation of microangiopathic complication of diabetes mellitus in the kidney which are characterized by proteinuria, decreased glomerular filtration rate, and increased blood pressure (BP). If increased BP is not managed properly. It will accelerate damage to the kidneys and cardiovascular system, so it is important to control BP control with antihypertensive therapy. The purpose of this study is to observe the use of antihypertensive drug therapy given to patients with DN. The study was conducted at the internal wards of Dr. Soetomo Hospital, from March to May 2012. This is a prospective study, with time limit sampling method. The inclusion criteria is inpatient DN who received antihypertensive therapy, which obtained 37 DN patients with antihypertensive therapy. Of the patients studied, only 35% reached BP target during hospitalization, while the other 40% did not and 25% could not be evaluated. Most of the patients (67,57%) used monotherapy with amlodipine as the most used antihypertensive agents (72,97%). Combination therapy was used in 32,43%, and amlodipine was also most widely used, as combination with valsartan (16,22%) or with irbesartan (10,81%).
