Abstract

Ischemic stroke caused deplete in cognitive and motor function. MC4R has action in neuron protection for cerebral ischemia including prevention of oxidative stress. Curcumins a group of antioxidants that play an important role in preventing the development of ischemic brain injury through a mechanism to inhibit the formation of free radicals. The groups divided to the sham group and the ischemic stroke group which treatment by curcumin i.p. in Tween 80 vehicle. Then, mice were sacrifice in day 7 for taking the brain areas which consist of dorsal striatum, hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. Furthermore, the alteration of MC4R expression in these areas analyzed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). This study show that MC4R expression decrease on ischemic stroke and increase after curcumin administration. Thus, melanocortin system in dorsal striatum area is suggested to play a role in the protective effect of curcumin toward stroke condition.
