Abstract

Cataract is turbidity that occours in the lens of the eye which gradually becomes blurred, so that it disturbs vision and can eventually cause total blindness. The surgery with the implantation of an intraocular lens is the most common procedure for cataract treatment. Antibiotics are used to prevent post-operative endophtalmitis after cataract surgery. The purpose of this study was to identify characteristics of patients of cataract, the profile of antibiotics for patients after cataract surgery, indentify the possibility of Drug Related Ploblems (DRP) in antibiotics therapy and evaluate outcome of antibiotics therapy for patients after cataract surgery. Data was collected retrospectively and analyzed descriptively from patient’s medication record who included in inclusion criteria from January 2017 to December 2018 with time limited sampling method. Data was analyzed based on several literature related to post cataract therapy and collaboration with clinicians. The result of this study on 788 cases of cataract surgery showed that 284 cases of 252 patients recived antibiotic therapy and carried out postoperative control. The most characteristics of patients of cataract were women (57.17%) with age range 60-70 years (43.65%). The most antibiotics therapy frequently used was topical tobramycin (96.48%). Of 284 cataract surgery there were no cases of infectious endphtalmitis found.
