Abstract

This study evaluates the quantity of antibiotic use to encourage the proper use of antibiotics. The method recommended by the Ministry of Health and WHO is ATC / DDD. This study was a retrospective observational study. The data was presented descriptively. The purpose of this study was to examine the pattern of antibiotic use and evaluate the quantity of antibiotic use using the ATC / DDD method. This research was conducted at the Internal Medicine SMF in Bhayangkara H.S Samsoeri Mertojoso Surabaya Hospital during the period of 1 November 2018 to 31 December 2018. The results showed that the number of samples met the inclusion criteria were 69 patients. The most widely used therapeutic antibiotics were ceftriaxone (2 x 1 g) IV and levofloxacin (1 x 500 mg) IV. Ceftriaxone was a third generation cephalosporin antibiotic with the highest DDD value approximately 26,53 DDD / 100 patient-days. The second highest DDD value was levofloxacin at 21,08 DDD / 100 patient-days, and the third highest DDD value was cefotaxime at 6,05 DDD / 100 patient-days. Other antibiotics used were ceftazidim, meropenem, and azytromycin having DDD values of less than 4/100 patient-days.
