Abstract

This study analyzes the structural typesof lexical bundles (LBs) in the introduction, materials and methods, and also results and discussion sections of articles published by Plos One. The data derived from 2190 journal articles which focuses on linguistics and analyzed by using structural types theory from Biber et al (1999). It used a corpus linguistics methodology, AntCorGen application to collected the data and WordSmith application to analyzed the data. The results show that there are 12 structural types of LBs found in introduction and results and discussion, meanwhile, the materials and methods only 11 structural types found without that/this based. Regarding the significant similarities, all sections have the highest number of LBs, which is noun-based main type and noun phrase + of sub-type. Introduction section with results and discussion section have similar findings rather than introduction section with materials and methods section. Meanwhile, the materials and methods section also shares a similar results with results and discussion section in conjunction-based, but none with introduction section. The significant differences found in the results of the data and the types of sctructural types of LBs found in all sections. Thus, the results of the data analysis from Plos One which focus on linguistics articles indicate that the structural types of LBs found tend to describes subject, object, preposition and classification related to the study to fulfill the semantic function of each section in the articles. In this presence, this study isexpected toassist the readers how to write a good journal article, because Plos One websites provides mega journal and indexed by Scopus.
