Abstract

The purpose of this research was validation of (Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry) FAAS for determination of metals such as Ca (calcium), K (potassium), and Mg (magnesium) in isotonic water. Sample was destructed by wet ashing and dry ashing method. As a consequence, the validation of analytical methods for determination of these metals are continuously developed. FAAS for determination of metals has been validated. The developed method was linear over the concentration ranges of 20.0 - 60.0 μg/mL (Ca), 100.0 – 300.0 μg/mL (K), and 6.0 -18.0 μg/mL (Mg). The correlation coefficient (r) obtained for these regressions is higher than 0.99. Limit of detection (LOD) of Ca, K, and Mg were found to be 3.2057 μg/mL , 1.3448 μg/mL and 0.0635 μg/mL respectively, while limit of quantitation (LOQ) were found to be 10. 6857 μg/mL (Ca), 4.4827 μg/mL (K) and 0.2116 μg/mL (Mg), respectively. This method was accurate and precise enough for determination of these metals in isotonic drink sample which were indicated. Statistical analysis by independent T-tests showed that there was no difference between wet ashing and dry ashing method. The developed method has been successfully used for determination of Ca, K and Mg levels in isotonic drink commercially available in the markets
