Abstract

Introduction: Lack of knowledge and attitudes about smoking prevention on junior high school teenagers causes increasing beginner smoker. Appropriate prevention efforts are needed to minimize this. The aim of this study was to describe the effect of picture and picture method towards knowledge and attitudes abot smoking prevention on junior high school teenagers in Surabaya. Methods: Design of this study was pra-experimental with one group pra-post test. The population were 108 students (male student class VII) in SMP Al Islah Surabaya. Sample were taken by purposive sampling technique (n=85 respondent). Independent variable was picture and picture method and dependent variable were knowledge and attitudes. Data collected by questionnaire pra-test and post-test that analyzed by Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with level significance α=0,05 Result: The result showed that picture and picture methode could affect knowledge and attitudes about smoking prevention with analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test p=0,000. Discussion: Picture and picture method can increase knowledge and attitudes about smoking prevention because picture media that used increase the attraction, motivation, and enthusiasm of teenagers in following the learning process. Therefore, picture and picture method can be an alternative choice to health education with increase knowledge and attitudes.
