Abstract

Objective/background: Pulmonary tuberculosis is a one of major problem in the world. Indonesia was second rank for pulmonary tuberculosis incidence and cases after India. The high incidence case of tuberculosis is caused by poor knowledge and lack of effort to prevent the transmission. To decrease this numbers, patients should be well educated and motivated to apply preventive actions to keep families away from contract tuberculosis. Methods: This research objective was to identify the correlation between family support and knowledge and motivation in patient to prevent spreading of tuberculosis disease. Cross-sectional approach and consecutive sampling technique was use in research and consist of 120 respondents from Kenjeran sub-district. Three variables were uses; independent variable was family supports and dependent variable was knowledge to prevent tuberculosis and motivation to prevent tuberculosis spreading. All data were collected using questionnaire. This study uses Spearman-rho Rank analysis test. Result: The Spearman-rho Rank test showed that there is significant correlation between family support and knowledge to prevent tuberculosis with p-value of 0.001 and r-value of 0.310 as well as correlation of family support and motivation to prevent tuberculosis showed a p-value of 0.000 and r-value 0.708. Discussion: This research showed high correlation in family support and motivation, but low in family support and knowledge. It means knowledge to prevent TB is not all came from family but also from other source. The higher the level of family support will increase motivation of patient to make the family secure from tuberculosis.
