Abstract
The rapid development of times recently, raises the negative effects, which one of it is eating pattern shift, from something balance and natural, to be monotonous and instant. The bad effect causes a tendency to consume high fatty foods more and more that causes the level of cholesterol higher. Hypercholesterolemia is the increasing of cholesterol level in blood. The high cholesterol level is the main risk factor to get a coronary heart disease. The uses of natural ingredients as traditional medicine have been widely public accepted almost all over the world. This is the reason why the use of traditional herbal as mangosteen pericarp is interesting to cope with hyperlipidemia and can be developed further as standardized herbal and phytopharmaca, especially to decrease cholesterol level. This study, mice as experimental animals grouped into 6 groups: Normal Control; Negative Control; Positive Control; 3,33 mg/20g bw; 5,00 mg/20g bw; and 6,67 mg/20g bw. After test materiel exposing, bloods cholesterols levels have been evaluated at the 3rd, 5th, and 7th days. The cholesterol level analysis used one way ANOVA α=0,05 with LSD test and being concluded. The result of research showed that dry extract of mangosteen pericarp is able to lower cholesterol level of mice alloxan inducted in 5,00 mg/20g bw. This research is expected to support the further researches related to the benefits of mangosteen pericarp in the field of medicine.
