Abstract

The aim of th is study were obtained the influence of melatonin and effective dose toward blood glucose in rat ( Rattus norvegicus) which induced by alloksan. Thirty healthy wistar male rat (Rattus norvegicus) with 100 - 150 gram average body weight and two - three month old were used in this study. This rat were adapted for seven days and divided into six group. First group (P0) as control of normal blood glucose. P1 which induced by alloksan intraperitoneally as negative control of diabetes mellitus type I. Mellatonin was given intraperitoneally as treatment on group P2, P3, and P4 using range dose to observe the effective dose of mellatonin as therapy of diabetes mellitus type I. Last group (P5) was given forbetes which has known as drug of choice for diabetes mellitus type I, orally as positif control. This study used Complete Random Design and the result has been analyzed using ANOVA (A11alyzed of Varience) continued with Duncan's Multiple Range Test method and processed by using SPSS computer software programe. The result shows that melatonin influence to reduce blood glucose on rat induced by alloksan as suspect of diabetes mellitus type I and there is significant differences (p<0,05) among the groups. Treatment using mellatonin 5 mg/kg body weight (P2) as the most effective dose to decrease blood glucose in rat induced by alloksan. Keywords :melatonin, alloksan, diabetes mellitus tipe I
