Abstract
Ketoprofen is an AINS which has several side effects such as nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal discomfort, even gastrointestinal bleeding. Beside, it also has a short half life. Microparticles of ketoprofen was developed to decrease the side effects. Ketoprofen-chitosan microparticles were prepared by orifice ionic gelation. The mixture of the dispersion system consist of ketoprofen-chitosan was dropped with syringe 21G onto cross-linker solution ( tripolyphosphate). The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of tripolyphosphate (TPP) concentration on physical characteristics, encapsulation efficiency and drug release profile of microparticles. Different concentration of TPP( 5%, 7,5% and 10% ) was used. The result showed that drug released will decrease with increasing of cross-linker a mmount. Optimum concentration of the crosslinker was presented, an increase concentration above it wouldn ‟ t give slower drug release profile.
