Abstract

Nephrotic Syndrome (NS) is one of renal diseases was characterized by proteinuria greater than 3,5 g/day per 1,73 m 2 or greater than 40 mg/jam/m 2 , with h ypoalbuminemia, edema, hyperlipidemia, and hypercoagulation disorder. NS was caused by phlogogenic immune complex effect. This study was aimed to study the using of corticosteroid on patient with nephrotic syndrome, particularly on doses, the tapering pattern, and drug related problems, at Nephrology and Hypertension division Polyclinic Outpatient Installation Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya from period March to May 2011. The data was collected using pr ospective method and analyzed descriptively. The result of this study show that the drug uses to the patient was prednisone and methylprednisolone. The dose of prednisone was 60 mg/day, and the dose of methylprednisolone was 48 mg/day, for the first onset of NS. The drug related problems were founded in this study was the low of patient’s compliance, side effects of drug, and need drug for another therapy. In addition, another drug that also important to be used were diuretic, lipid lowering agent, and antihypertensive.
