Abstract
Background -Rheumatic heart disease remains a major cause of valvular disease in child and young adult in developi ng country. WHO Expert Consultation Geneva reported that the mortality rate for rheumatic heart disease of 0.5 per 100,000 population in developed countries and 8.2 per 100,000 in developing countries. Objective -The aim of the study was to identify patterns of drug use in patients of rheumatic heart disease and Drug Related Problems (DRPs) according to using of anticoagulant Methods - This research type is a descriptiv e study using patient’s medical record (observational retrospective) who treated during the period 1 June 2009 untill 31 December 2010. Result -of the 33 patients studied, furosemide is the treatment most widely used (94%) therapy used aims to relieve symp toms. in addition to getting treatment, patients also get treatment in the form of antibiotic prophylaxis. antibiotics are used namely, penicillin at a dose 625mg/day 3 patients, macrolides with a dose of 400-500mg/day 7 patients, cefalosporin with a dose of 2x1 g / day with a route iv 9 patients, aminopenicillin dose 3x500mg/d ay 3 patients and 1g/4-8 hours to route iv. Side effect that occurred in patient i.e. hypokalemi (7 patient) and aritmia (5 patient), and for drugs interaction who most occurred is aritmia (25 patient) which caused by interaction between furosemid and dygoxin. Conclusion -Drug utilization in patient who get rheumatic heart disease in Dr. Soetomo Teaching Hospital were accordi ng to Guideline Diagnosys and Therapy Valvular Disease and American Heart Association (AHA) Guideline Recommendations.
