Abstract

Simvastatin is one of the medication of choices to treat high LDL cholesterol. Because of its mechanism, simvastatin can reduce morbidity and mortality from atherosclerosis disease. To be able to use simvastatin correctly, information about simvastatin need to be concerned by patients. Therefore, pharmacist‟s role is needed in giving drug information of simvastatin to the patients. The aim of this research was to describe the profile of drug information on simvastatin prescription services given by community pharmacies in Surabaya. This study u sed a simulated patient method. In this study, 90 community pharmacies was selected randomly. The sources of data in this study were pharmacies staff. A designed scenario, protocol, checklist, and prescription contains simvastatin used to obtain the data. A validation and reliability test was done before obtaining the data. The results shows that, 53 community pharmacies (61,6%) gave an information about when simvastatin should be taken. There were 47 community pharmaci es (54,7%) gave information about how to take simvastatin. Then, 29 community pharmacies (33,7%) gave information about number of drug in once administration. And, only 28 community pharmacy (32,6%) gave information about the frequency of simvastatin used in daily. In conclusion, most pharmacies in Surabaya only provide information on how to use simvastatin drug. Moreover, to prevent the DRPs (drug related problems) related to lack of medicine information, a pharmacist is required to gave the information completely.
