Abstract

In vitro antiviral activity of Eucalyptus globulus stem against Hepatitis C Virus has been done. Previous studies showed that ethanol 80% extract of Eucalyptus globulus stems have potential activity as an antihepatitis C virus against J6/JFH1 with IC50 15.14 ug /ml. The aim of this study was to determine the anti-hepatitis C activity of extracts and fractions of Eucalyptus globulus stems against JFH1a hepatitis virus. The extracts and fractions of the extract were used ethanol 80%, dichloromethane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, butanol fraction and water fraction. The results showed that the ethanol extract, dichloromethane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and butanol fractions of Eucalyptus globulus stems have activity in inhibiting the viral infection of cells with IC50 value 10.19 ug/ml; 1.64 ug/mL; 10.49 ug/mL; and 18.78 ug/mL respectively. But the water fraction showed lower activity with IC50 value of 205,79 ug /ml. Phytochemical screening using thin layer chromatography of active fractions that contained the compound known terpenoids and flavonoids. Further studies of compounds that have anti-hepatitis C activity are needed.
