Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) is a baby born with a bodyweight of fewer than 2,500 grams regardless of pregnancy period. Babies with LBW generally have difficulty breathing immediately after birth because of the small amount of functioning alveoli, lack of surfactants, small respiratory system, collapse or airway obstruction, insufficiency of classification of the thoracic bone, weakness or absence of impaired reflexes and pulmonary arteries that are immature. The purpose of this case study is to apply nursing care to LBW infants in the Neonatal Room of RSUD Dr. Soegiri Lamongan by using a nursing process approach. Method: This research design uses case studies. Data collection methods used are structured interviews. Data collection instruments in the form of a format for assessing child care include history, physical examination, observation, and documentation of clients who were treated for 3 days in the Neonatus Room of RSUD Dr. SoegiriLamongan. Data is presented in narrative form and analyzed in descriptive data using stages of the nursing process. Results: This case study showed a diagnosis of the treatment of ineffective breathing patterns that were conducted by the study, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation phases following the theory and the review of the case. Discussion: Therefore it is recommended for nurses to apply ineffective breathing pattern management techniques with chest physiotherapists, oxygenation, giving the fowler or semi-fowler position, and do the mucus suctioning to prevent obstruction of the baby's airway caused by amniotic fluid or others
