Abstract

This study aimed to determine the acute toxicity test effects of ethanol extract of red roses using the Brine Shrimp lethality Test (BSLT) method and determine the LC50 values of Artemia salina Leach larvae after the administration of ethanol extract of red roses. This research is an experimental post-test-only control group design. Experimental animals used 300 larvae Artemia salina Leach were divided into 5 groups. Each group consisted of 10 animals. Each group performed 5 repetitions trial. As the test material was ethanol extract of red roses given to the media solution containing the test animals. Final concentration of extract was 100%, 31.5%, 10%, 3%, 1% and 0% as control. Data obtained from counting the number of larvae that died 24 hours after treatment. Based on the data, LC50 basil leaf ethanol extract was determined by probit analysis using SPSS. The results of average value of larval mortality at concentration of 100%, 31.5%, 10%, 3%, 1% and 0% respectively were 10, 10, 10, 22, 13, 0. The higher concentration of the extract led to the higher number of larvae mortality. Results of probit analysis showed LC50 of the ethanol extract of red roses is 301834,69829 µg/ml. Ethanol extract of red roses (Rosa damascena Mill) in this study showed no potential for acute toxicity on the larvae of Artemia salina Leach indicated a price of LC50 > 1000 µg/ml according to the method of Brine Shrimp lethality Test (BSLT).
