Abstract

A simple, rapid, selective isocratic reversed-phase HPLC method was developed and validated for the determination of piracetam in pharmaceutical syrup. The analytes were separated on a RP-18 LiCroshpher column (250mm x 4.00 i.d, 5 um particle size). A mobile phase of Acetonitrile and phosphate buffer pH 6 (10:90 v/v) at flow rate of 1ml/min, with oven temperature set at 300C was suitable for the separation and determination of piracetam in syrups. The UV Detection was carried out at 210 nm. The Chromatographic parameters such as retention times, capacity factor, tailing factor, number of theoretical plates, %RSD of peak area and resolution factors were determined. The developed method was found to be linear over concentrations ranges of 42-105 ug/ml for piracetam (r2=0.9996, Vxo = 0.03%).Validation acceptance criteria were met in all cases. As the method could effectively separate the substance from the related substances and the other impurities. The proposed method was successfully applied for determination of piracetam in syrups.
