Abstract

The discovery of a dopaminergic deficit in the nigros-triatal pathway of patients with Parkinson's disease led to the introduction of levodopa therapy. The initial good therapeutic efficacy of levodopa is often confounded within a few years of the start of treatment by the development of motor complications. A number of drugs belonging to different classes an operating by distinct mechanisms have been shown to help patients with PD. Dopamine receptor agonists are effective as monotherapy in early disease or as adjunct to levodope in latersiages. Ropinirole is a non ergot dompanie agonist that has demonstrated efficacy in early and advanced Parkinson disease (PD). when used as monotherapy or as at adjunctive therapy to levodopa.
