Abstract

Antithyroid agent has been used as treatment of Hyperthyroidism. However their utilization, effectiveness and safety based on clinical and laboratory data in clinical practice need continuous study. PURPOSE: To identify the utilization and DRPs of antithyroid agent in patient with hyperthyroidism. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out for 3 months (March to May 2013). Patient of all ages and both sexes who used antithyroid agent and had clinical and laboratory data were included in the study. Then analyzed the prescribing pattern like type, dose and frequency of antithyroid agents and identify the DRPs which could be occur during study. RESULT: From 55 samples, hyperthyroidsm was more prevalent in women (76.4%) than men (23.6%) with most patient’s age between 40 and 60 years old (60.0%). Type of antithyroid agents used were propylthiouracil (52.7%) and methimazole (47.3%). There were 61.2% patients achieved their therapeutic target. In this study, the incidence of DRPs identified were inappropriate dose and frequency of use (12.7%) and potential drug interactions (5.4%).
