Abstract
United Nation members have included 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One of the main highlights is the first point about poverty alleviation due to unemployment. Therefore we need an effective strategy to solve these problems both from the government and community institutions, such as pesantren. One of the pesantren involved is Pesantren Mukmin Mandiri that has contributed to overcoming this problem. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of pesantren when overcoming unemployment. The research method is explanatory qualitative. Data is collected through observations, interviews, and documentations. Then, the data is validated by triangulation of sources and techniques. The results showed that the Pesantren Mukmin Mandiri can overcome unemployment through empowerment by developing santri skills in the economic and social fields, as well as empowering santri skills. The existence of these efforts will certainly have a positive impact on students and the productive age community.
