Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the serum antibody titer of kampung chicken against the Newcastle Disease (ND) virus. This research was using 100 serum samples of kampung chicken, samples were taken from kampung chickens that were traded in Ngemplak traditional market, using the multistage cluster sampling method, which is taking samples made through two glasses or more samples. Research was conducted in Virology and Immunology Laboratory, Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University, from January until February 2020. The methods used were HA and HI tests. Reading of the results was done by observing the erythrocyte sedimentation. Parameters observed in this study were antibody titer of kampung chicken to sediment erythrocytes in haemaglutination inhibition test (HI). The data were analyzed descriptively. Serum was examined regarded as being positive when test result showed the HI antibody titer ≥24. The result showed that the 100 samples taken in Ngemplak traditional market only 13 samples (13%) showed a protective titer while 87 samples (87%) were not protective. The protection level of kampung chickens against ND viruses in a Ngemplak traditional market is very low.
