Abstract

This research was doing to explain the process of particle formation to and function of particle to on onomatape in Japanese language. The data in this study were taken from the novel Kimi no Souzou wo Tabetai by Sumino Yoru. This research which focuses on particle to aims to determine the shape of onomatopoeia based on the phoneme and onomatopoeic functions that can be attached to particle to. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with data analysis techniques for direct elements. The theory used is the Japanese onomatope theory which reviews the form and classification of onomatopoeia, phonology and syntax. The classification of the use of particles to accompanied onomatopoeia consists of onomatope which must be accompanied by particle to, onomatope which is accompanied by optional particle to, better onomatope accompanied by particle to, and onomatope which is not accompanied by particle to. In addition, the category of onomatope as an adverb. From the results of the study showed that 77 data found there are 52 data are onomatopoeia accompanied by optional particle to, 15 data are onomatopoeia that must be accompanied by particle to, 3 data are better onomatopoeia accompanied by particle to, and 7 data are onomatopoeia that are not accompanied by particle to. In addition, there are 70 data that have the function of an adverb that explains the state (jōtaifukushi) consisting of onomatope which must be accompanied by particle to, onomatope accompanied by optional particle to and better onomatope accompanied by particle to while 7 data have an adverb function which explains the existence of a level (teidofukushi).
