Abstract
The present study reports the presence of concentrations of Pb, Cd and Zn in the muscle tissue of bullet tuna (Auxis rochei) caught from Bali Strait, Indonesia. The concentrations of metals in the muscle tissues of bullet tuna were determined by atomic absorption spectrometer. The concentrations of metals ranged from <0.002 to 2.01 mg/kg for Pb, 0.15 to 0.55 mg/kg for Cd and 1.34 to 10.26 mg/kg for Zn. The metals concentrations in the muscles of bullet tuna were in the order: Zn>Pb>Cd. The levels of Pb in bullet tuna surpass the permissible limit for human consumption according to FAO (1983) and EC (2001). The levels of Cd in bullet tuna were above the maximum permissible levels of seafood according to EC (2001), and the levels of Zn were below the permissible limit for human consumption, according to Indonesian and international standards. © EM International.
