Abstract

This study investigated the effect of two operating parameters of spray dryer to optimize production of artesunatechitosan nanoparticles. The parameters were inlet temperature (1000 C, 1100 C, and 1200 C) and pump feed rate (5 ml/minute and 12 ml/minute). The result of nanoparticles were characterized in terms of yield, shape and surface morphology, and entrapment efficiency. At a 95% confidence interval, inlet temperature and pump feed rate had no effect on yield and entrapment efficiency. From SEM investigation, it was known that inlet temperature has effect on morphology showed by 1200 C condition has concave in its surface, while at inlet temperature 1000 C has spherical shape and smooth surface. The inlet temperature 1000 C and pump feed rate 5 ml/minute was selected as treatment which had optimum condition due to spherical shape and smooth surface for nanoparticle production with SD-Basic Lab Plant UK Ltd.
