Abstract

Pharmacist has an important role to promote pharmaceutical care. By anticipating the drug therapy problem (DTP) for patients, particularly in patient diabetes. The aim of this study was to investigate DTP in diabetes patients in Farmasi Airlangga Pharmacy. It was a cross-sectional prospective study in February 2013 at Farmasi Airlangga Pharmacy. The data was obtained by interviewing the patients. DTP of patients with diabetes were found and identified based on their medication obtained by prescription. The DTP registration form and PMR (Patient Medication Record) were used to document the data. DTPs that were found by the research team was double checked by an expert panel. The result showed 27 prescriptions from 25 patients were included in this study. The DTPs categories were found in this patients were none unnecessary drug therapy; 5 (12,50%) needs additional drug therapy; none ineffective drug; none dosage too low; 12 (30%) adverse drug reactions, 2 (5%) dosage too high, 21 (52,50%) noncompliance with 23 actual and 9 potential noncompliance. In conclusion, DTPs in community pharmacy were quite high. Pharmacist has important responsibility to resolve actual DTPs and prevent potential DTPs.
