Abstract

Gender becomes one factor in the differences in language usage. This refers to the language used by men and women who have their own respective characters. In communicating, men and women also use various linguistic features. This can be found in the talk show programs. These differences in language methods are often found in the communication of the participants. This study aims to examine the use of language features in the communication patterns of men and women on the Kick Andy talk show program and Rosi's talk show program and the factors that influence the use of language features based on the theory of Hymes (1972), Coates (1986) and Lakoff ( 1975). The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. The results of the research based on data analysis found that (a) Andy and Rosi's communication patterns were both in the form of personal communication to sources, (b) Andy and Rosi both used linguistic features of question, tag question, lexical hedges, emphatic stress, empty adjectives, intensifier, command and directives, super polite forms, rising intonation on declaratives and avoidance of strong words but with different intensities, (c) the use of language features is influenced by social factors including social context, social class, age, and social and cultural institutions. where speakers and speech partners come from.
