Abstract

Asian house shrew (Suncus murinus) is an insectivore and pests, they are a reservoir of blood parasite in humans and animals which have the potential for zoonosis. Asian house shrew (Suncus murinus) might be found in the sewer, traditional market, and slums in large numbers. This study aims to identify the types of blood parasite , determine the prevalence of blood parasites that infect of Asian house shrew (Suncus murinus) in Surabaya City. This researchh used 50 blood samples of Asian house shrew (Suncus murinus). The method used was thin blood smear stained with Giemsa. Based on the result of the examination using a microscope with 1000x magnification. It was found one blood parasite of the genus Babesia sp. with a prevalence of 6%.
