Abstract
The idea of this dissertation is to find out general election system to strengthen the presidential system in Indonesia. The issues discussed in this research are (1) the philosophical basis and principles of general elections pursuant to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and (2) general election system to strengthen the presidential system in Indonesia. This research is a legal research. In this study, four approaches are employed, which are statutory approach, conceptual approach, case approach and comparative approach. From this study, two things are found. First, the philosophical basis and principles of general election pursuant to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia have been implemented on direct, general, free, secret, proper, and fair principles once every five years. Second, the majority system is more appropriate for creating an effective and responsible government because it will encourage the simplification of political parties and the responsibilities of people's representatives to the voters in each district.
