Abstract
Background: The use of contraception among women aged 15-24 years is still very low in Indonesia. The use of contraception is related to sociodemographic factors, husband, household, accessibility, and geography. This study analyzes determinants associated with contraceptive use in women aged 15-24 years in Indonesia. Methods: This study examined data extracted from the 2017 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey. A cross-sectional design was employed to analyze a total of 3,679 married women aged 15-24 years and their use of contraception. Chi-Square Test and Binary Logistic Regression there used to evaluate the predictors of contraceptive use. We run the analysis using the software assistance of STATA 14. Results: The use of contraception among women aged 15-24 years at the time of the survey was 57.5%. Number of children 1-2 people [aOR = 36.78; 95% CI = 26.29-51.47], mother's highes education [aOR = 5.37; 95% CI = 1.84-15.65], territory in western Indonesia [aOR = 2.78; 95% CI = 1.91-4.05], and maternal age 15-19 years [aOR = 1.58; 95% CI = 1.10-2.26] proved to have a significant relationship with contraceptive use, where the number of children 1-2 people is the most dominant variable having a relationship to contraceptive use among women aged 15-24 years in Indonesia. Conclusion: The use of contraception among women aged 15-24 years in Indonesia is related to the number of children, mother's education, region, and mother's age. This study recommends that a multisectoral approach is needed to solve this problem by taking into account uneducated women who live in central and western Indonesia. The need for more comprehensive education related to the use of contraception for pregnancy planning and the number of children by involving the husband as a decision-maker in the family.
