Abstract

Background: Gingivitis is an inflammation occuring in gingiva, caused by toxic effects of the bacteria around gingiva. Untreated gingivitis may cause prolonged inflammatory and resulted in periodontitis. Periodontitis is an inflammation in the periodontal tissue. Since many studies reported the strong corelation between periodontitis and other systemic diseases, the clinical signs of gingivitis become very important. Gingival bleeding is one of the most important sign of gingivitis. Purpose: To study about gingivitis in Pucang Sewu Community Health Center Surabaya’s patients by using papillary bleeding index. Material and method: The descriptive study research was designed to measure gingivitis by using Papillary Bleeding Index. Result: Under ethycal aproval, 100 patiens joined the research as samples. There were 72 people had mild bleeding index (scale 0 – 0.99), and 28 patients had moderate bleeding index(scales 1 – 1.99). Patients who have the lowest bleeding intensity were men, patients with advance education, and patients who brush their teeth once a day. Conclusion: The incidence of gingivitis at Puskesmas Pucang Sewu Surabaya is very low.
