Abstract

Occupational accidents are the problems for the company’s continuity, and the potential damage because of occupational accidents can be in the form of people, property, and process damages. It can be prevented through behavioral approach by increasing the safety commitment and safety performance. This study aimed at analyzing the factors affecting the safety commitment and the safety performance in workers of the jumbo bag division at PT. Kerta Rajasa Raya Sidoarjo. This study was observational with a quantitative method and using a cross-sectional design as the research design. The population of this study was 395 workers with a total sample of 78 workers collected using the simple random sampling technique. The data collection in this study was done using questionnaires, observations, and interviews. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The result showed that management safety commitment affected on safety commitment with a p-value of 0.013 (normative) and a p-value of 0.004 (continuance). Meanwhile, safety communication affected on safety commitment with a p-value of 0.014. Besides, social support affected on safety performance with a p-value of 0.016, and safety commitment affected on safety performance with a p-value of 0.002. Based on the findings of the study, it concluded that the factors affected on safety commitment is management safety commitment and safety communication, while the factors affected on safety performance is social support, and safety commitment. The suggestion for the management is increased the performance of occupational safety and health committees (P2K3), important to integrated occupational safety in the company’s system through the implementation of OHSMS, do safety talk, and conducted the “you see you act” program
