Abstract

Latar belakang: Dalam perawatan ortodonti diperlukan pemeriksaan tipe kepala. Pemeriksaan tipe kepala perlu dilakukan sehingga dapat digunakan untuk melihat pola pertumbuhan dan untuk memonitor serta memprediksi hasil dari perawatan ortodonti. Maloklusi adalah suatu kelainan yang memiliki etiologi multifaktorial. Salah satu etiologi maloklusi adalah kelainan pada pola pertumbuhan. Pola pertumbuhan tertentu akan menghasilkan tipe kepala tertentu. Hal ini menyebabkan tipe kepala tertentu diasosiasikan dengan kasus maloklusi dental maupun skeletal tertentu. Mulai dari maloklusi dental kelas I,II dan III, hingga maloklusi skeletal. Tujuan: Mengetahui hubungan antara variasi tipe kepala dengan klasifikasi maloklusi. Metode: Sumber pustaka yang digunakan dalam penyusunan artikel melalui beberapa database dengan deskripsi terkait cephalic index correlationn dan cephalic index malocclusion. Hasil: Terdapat hubungan antara tipe kepala tertentu dengan klasifikasi maloklusi tertentu. Hal ini dapat dipengaruhi oleh faktor genetik dan faktor lingkungan atau kombinasi dari kedua fakor tersebut. Kesimpulan: Terdapat hubungan antara tipe kepala tertentu dengan klasifikasi maloklusi tertentu.
