Abstract
This study aims to detect and the prevalence of Acanthocephala sp. in snakehead fish (Channa striata) in Ngawi Regency, East Java, taken from Ngawi Market; Besar Ngawi Market, Beran Market, Jogorogo Market, Gendingan Market; Traditional Market in Ngawi. The number of samples used was 60 with 36 snakehead fish measuring 10-30 cm and 24 snakehead fish measuring 30-45 cm. The method used in this research is a survey method. The research was conducted at the Animal Health Laboratory of the Ngawi Agricultural Service. The worms were stained with Semichen-Acetic Carmine, then observed using a microscope connected to an photo camera OptiLab microscope. Detection results and prevalence of snakehead fish marketed in Ngawi District is 63.3%, where 38 of the 60 snakehead fish are infected by Acanthocephala worms, namely Pallisentis sp. The total prevalence of snakehead fish infected with Pallisentis sp. 63.3% were included in the frequent (very frequent) category with a prevalence rate of 50-69%. The results of statistical analysis using the Chi-square test showed no significant difference in the degree of infection of fish size and location (p> 0.05).
