Abstract

Confinement (pasung) among people with mental illness (Orang Dengan Gangguan Jiwa, ODGJ) is one of mental health problems in Indonesia. Government had declared a program named Indonesia Bebas Pasung in 2010, which should be accomplished in 2014, but it was extended until 2019 because of unachieved target. Riskesdas (2018) showed that 14% families in Indonesia still performed confinement. Department of Social Services in several provincies, such as Jawa Tengah and Nusa Tenggara Barat revealed that in 2019 there were still pasung cases in those areas, indicating the fact that Indonesia had not been freed from pasung. This is a scoping review study aimed to analyze factors associated with pasung prevention in Indonesia. Journal databases used in this research were ProQuest, ScienceDirect, Scopus, GoogleScholar, Indonesia One Search, and Portal Garuda. Variables examined in this study were family factor, health system factor, community factor, and environmental factor which related to pasung prevention in Indonesia. There were 21 articles analyzed in this research. Family factors associated with pasung prevention were economic status, family knowledge, and family attitude. Health system factors which related to pasung prevention were health effort, health financing, and health regulation. Furthermore, community factors linked to pasung prevention were community behavior and stigma. Lastly, environmental factors associated with pasung prevention were socio-cultural factor and distance. This study concluded that family factor, health system factor, community factor, and environmental factors were associated with pasung prevention among mental illness patients in Indonesia. Those four factors were linked to each other, so that intervention is needed in every factor. Moreover, further research in this area is needed to provide data for decision making and intervention planning, since there are only a few research about this topic in Indonesia.
