Abstract
Dengue virus infection (DVI) is an arbovirus disease that spreads most rapidly than other arbovirus diseases. The Jember Region is one of the dengue virus endemic areas. incidence rate DVI in Jember Region had increased from 2018 to 2019. DVI The aim of this study was to explain the correlation between the DENV serotype and the severity of DVI found in the Jember Region. This type of research was an exploratory laboratory study with a cross-sectional retrospective research design. The DENV serotype was determined through a Real Time RT-PCR examination. From 192 subjects with DVI suspect had been detected 61 (31,8%) DENV serotypes. The most common manifestations of DVI besides fever (100%) in this study were malaise (91,8%). The DEN-4 (70,5%) was the most predominant DENV serotypes, followed by DEN-3 (19.7%), DEN-2 (4,9%), DEN-1 (4,9%) serotypes. The WHO severity level that dominated in this study was dengue fever (52,5%). From the analysis of this study, no correlation was found between the DENV serotype and the severity of DVI in Jember District (P = 0,118). Conclusion: There is no correlation between DENV serotype and severity in the Jember Region. This study found a shift in the dominant serotype that circulated in the Jember Region from 2005 to 2019 namely the dominance of the DEN-2 serotype to the DEN-4 dominance.
