Abstract

Ethnic conflicts in Lampung arose because of the non-integration of immigrant communities with indigenous peoples based on the transmigration program that created a multicultural Lampung society. This transmigration program has shaped the immigrant community to be better than the original because the migrant community gets better facilities in improving the economy, and cultural freedom that causes indigenous people to be left behind. Ethnic conflicts in Lampung within a decade have spawned about 20 conflicts, these ethnic conflicts arise from past stories that are told from generation to generation from both immigrants and natives, all of which make the stigma less integrated. Lampung has local wisdom in creating integration called muakhi. Muakhi as cultural values and norms that function in the media and a forum for adapting in the social environment to create peace in people's lives. The purpose of this study is to explain the strategy of muakhi culture in dealing with conflict and as a conflict manager described by Peter T. Coleman and Thomas and Kilmann regarding conflict management. This study uses qualitative methods, namely methods to explore, understand, study, and analyze the phenomenon of inter-ethnic conflict in Lampung with a phenomenological and constructive approach. The data obtained in this study are primary and secondary data through research subjects. Primary data was obtained through the criteria determined by the researcher using in-depth interviews and secondary data obtained from the internet, related research journals, and supporting books. This study analyzes data from in-depth interviews that were transcribed, then categorized the transcripts, and analyzed by theory. The results of the first study, strategy muakhi in dealing with a conflict must know conflict mapping. After knowing the conditions and chronology of the conflict, Muakhi uses a self-help strategy, because the weak party is always pressured by the strong party which causes the weak party to help themselves and carry out a joint problem solving to get problem identification which is done by controlling in doing deliberation with elements of cooperation. Second, the muakhi strategy in managing conflict is formed from local wisdom which has several processions including a competition to win-lose, when it has gained interest, it will collaborate, which is guided by the highest head to get satisfaction in interests, After collaborating and then making a compromise, both parties give each other leeway and concessions which can lead to mutual satisfaction. After being managed, organized, and managed properly, this conflict will create friendly peace.
