Abstract
Systemic racism in the US has been studied extensively, ranging from the disbelief to arguments that proves its concrete existence. This study tries to bridge the two by giving a new perspective, a recent cultural product in which systemic racism is portrayed. The purpose of this research is to examine the aspect of systemic racism that is being portrayed throughout the season by using theory of oppression by Joe Richard Feagin and to offer the reader an interpretation of systemic racism based on popular culture that is found the Mindhunter TV Series that was aired on Netflix, providing an overview of how the mainstream on demand service might affect people’s perception towards the issue of systemic racism. The qualitative method is used, using a narrative analysis approach of actantial model and semiotic square by A.J Greimas. The findings suggest that the narrative of the series was made toshow how racism was ongoing and maintained systemically; and that it implemented the narrative that brings about the evidence of the existence and emergence of systemic racism, that the racial injustice is indeed caused not only by an overt act but also in institutional level in the government and society.
