Abstract
Background : Leprosy is a disease that the community has feared up to now. It is associated with stigma due to the changes in body shape that affect the skin of patients with leprosy. The community has a negative stigma that makes people reluctant to be close to patients with leprosy, which involves patients' interaction and social participation. The research aims to identify factors that influence the interaction and social participation of leprosy patients. Methods : The research used a literature review design method and articles from four electronic databases (Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar). The search of journals was using the PICOS framework. The inclusion criteria used are English journals published from 2011 to 2020, experimental or non-experimental research journals, and journals measuring leprosy patients' interaction and social participation. Tabulation of data and narrative analysis carried out on the articles or journals found. Results : The research results showed that the level of disability becomes a factor that affects the restriction of social interaction. Afterward, age, gender, marital status, income level, education level, and level of disability are factors that affect the restriction of social participation. Conclusion : It is essential to educate the community regarding leprosy and explain that leprosy can be cured by early detection and regular treatment. For patients with leprosy who experience interaction and social participation restrictions, it is recommended to go to a counselor in the hope of gaining their self-confidence back so that they can return to living their lives as social beings with their social environment.
