Abstract
Hesperetin is a flavonoid compound that has biological activity as an anti-cancer agent. The use of this compound has problems related to its poor solubility in water, so a mixed micellar system TPGS – Poloxamer P84 (1:4) was developed to overcome this problem. The mixed micelles of TPGS – Poloxamer P84 (1:4) containing hesperetin with concentrations of 1%, 2%, 4%, and 8% were prepared using the thin film hydration method. The micelles formed were tested for physical characteristics such as particle size, CMC, entrapment efficiency, and drug loading. From these characteristics, it was found that the micelle formed had a size of less than 100 nm, had a low CMC value of 0.0029% w/v, and maximum entrapment efficiency of 98.45 ± 0.35%. The entrapment efficiency of the micellar system decreased with increasing hesperetin concentrations of 4% and 8%. From the characteristic data, it was found that micelles containing 2% hesperetin had good characteristics and stability. And then, in the micellar system containing 2% hesperetin, an in vitro drug release test was carried out and it was found that in 24 hours only 49.15 ± 0.72% hesperetin was released from the mixed micelles of TPGS – Poloxamer P84 (1:4).
