Abstract

Smoking is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Indonesia. Smokers are aware of the dangers of smoking and are motivated to quit, but many have not succeeded. The World Health Organization (WHO) established The Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), which were agreed upon by WHO members, including Indonesia. FCTC mandated action focuses on tobacco cessation and dependence. A community pharmacy is one of the most accessible places to provide smoking cessation services. This cross-sectional study aimed to see the correlation between knowledge, motivation to quit smoking, and willingness to participate in the smoking cessation service program. This study used the Transtheoretical Model's Stage of Change to assess smokers' motivational stages. A convenience sampling was used, in which 256 people agreed to participate in the study. An electronic questionnaire was circulated through social media. The results showed that the majority of participants respondents have a sufficient level of knowledge, 176 (68.8%), have the motivation to quit smoking 150 (58.59%) and have a high willingness to participate in the smoking cessation service program 185 (72.3%). There was a significant difference in motivation between males and females (p=0.001) and significant differences in willingness based on education level (p=0.018). The correlation test showed a significant correlation between motivation and willingness (p=0.000) and between knowledge and willingness (p= 0.011). The study's findings indicate a significant relationship between motivation and willingness and a significant relationship between knowledge and willingness to join a smoking cessation program.
